We had one day in Menaggio and looked for a hotel that would feel like we were in quaint Lake Como. We wanted the dream Lake Como experience! A great view with that traditional Italian feeling. We found the perfect place at Hotel Garni Corona! Right from check in we could tell we’d made the right choice, the lovely staff member filled in our details and chatted about the history of the hotel, we were enthralled and couldn’t wait to get to our room!

Location and getting around

Perfectly located right on the waterfront and main square of Menaggio the hotel is front and centre of the town.

Arriving by bus and it was only a 10 minute walk from the main station. You can jump on the C10 which will drop you just behind the hotel in about 4 minutes from the main station. The buses are well organised and easy to use.

The location makes it easy to walk to everywhere you will want to visit in Menaggio. Also to the bus and boat ferry port if you want to visit other towns from here. It’s a very easy 15 minute boat trip to both Bellagio and Varenna and costs 4.90 euro pp each way. You can also buy a day pass if visiting more than one town in a day.

History of the hotel

Hotel Garni Corona is a third generation family run business and is steeped in the tradition of Menaggio. In operation for many years, once called Hotel Pensionne Couronne when the main tourism came from France. The family changed the name back after the second world war to reflect its Italian heritage.

Everywhere you look in the lobby and hotel are pictures from the hotels history, beautiful pieces of art and chandeliers. We felt we had stepped back in time to a beautiful era. We definitely found our dream Lake Como stay at Hotel Garni Corona.

Check in

Check in was easy. Walking into the hotel we were greeted by the most charming front desk staff member. Quickly given our keys and made to feel welcome and at ease. We knew we had made the right choice for our dream Lake Como getaway.

The room

Our room was incredible! Completely renovated to a beautiful modern standard with historic touches.

We had a massive, comfortable bed which was sweetly decorated with scented petal style tissue. Perfect to fall into after a long day travelling. The room boasted a full walk in robe area to store our belongings totally out of our way. It included a safe and full length mirror inside.

The decor was modern, charming, with everything perfectly placed. New but with a nod to tradition with sculpted edges and colour palette. There was everything we could possibly need, a lounge for relaxing, a safe, coffee and tea station.

The renovated bathroom was spacious and luxurious. Beautifully designed there was a walk-in rainfall shower, vanity with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Everything was perfecly clean, we were able to relax and really unwind.

The best part was the incredible location of our room! Right at the front we had two fully opening doors out onto our private patio complete with charming patio setting overlooking beautiful lake como. This balcony was just magical and made our Lake Como dreams come true! This is another reason why you will find your dream Lake Como stay at Hotel Garni Corona.

Our room was so romantic and charming we fell in love with it, the hotel and Lake Como all at once. Although it was drizzling with rain while in Menaggio we didn’t let that ruin our time. If anything it made it more romantic! Tucked away in our room we watched the light patter of rain fall on the lake over a drink.

Breakfast

Breakfast is available on the first floor in the morning. It is a buffet set up with everything you want! Both hot and cold foods, a great range of fresh fruits and yoghurt, huge bread and spreads selection.

I asked if it was possible they had any gluten free items. Moments later I was presented with a massive basket full of high quality gluten free products! I had never seen such an amazing spread. Two types of breads, my favourite gluten free brand Schar and an excellent Italian gluten free brand I hadn’t tried. My gosh it was amazing! Such incredible guest care making everyone feel wanted. Their kindness was so genuine. It was the perfect way to start a day in this charming town. We were offered coffee or tea as soon as we sat, delivered promptly it was excellent. The staff are very quick and well organised, you wait for nothing.
