The Lodge Restaurant at Tensing Pen Review (2026): Is This Negril’s Most Beautiful Restaurant?

by Kelly October 9, 2026
by Kelly October 9, 2026
1

When we first visited Negril we expected the beach to be the highlight—but our lunch and cocktails at Tensing Pen completely changed our plans. We had decided to spend an afternoon at the cliff area of Negril and wanted to find a good restaurant, after visiting for the food we immediately wanted to stay overnight.

This review covers the atmosphere, food, drinks, dietary options, whether non-guests should visit and whether staying at Tensing Pen is worth it.

Short answer: Yes—The Lodge was one of our favourite restaurants in Jamaica. Even if you’re not staying at Tensing Pen, we think it’s worth visiting for lunch, cocktails or sunset. After visiting, we immediately added the hotel to our list for our next trip.

What Is The Lodge Restaurant At Tensing Pen?

Located on Negril’s cliffside West End area The Lodge is a stunning restaurant with open-air cliffside oceanfront dining serving Jamaican-inspired food in a relaxed luxury atmosphere.

The restaurant is part of Tensing Pen Hotel and guests and non-guests can dine here. They are open daily for brunch, lunch and dinner between 10:00 am – 9:00 pm. Sunset hour here would be magical and reservations are recommended during this time.

If you only visit one cliff restaurant in Negril—make it this one!

Our Experience Visiting The Lodge Restaurant

We arrived at The Lodge Restaurant and were greeted by the security guard who showed us the way to the restaurant. The path was lush and green which had an immediate relaxing effect. We walked through the big wooden doors and could immediately see the breathtaking cliffside oceanfront views. It was one of the most impressive restaurant settings we visited in Jamaica. We found a seat right in front of the water and checked out the menu. It was so enticing! After ordering we had to take some photos of the amazing views.

It felt like a world away from the beaches of Negril. The water was a deep blue and for a moment it felt more like Santorini or Capri than Jamaica. The service was exceptional and the quality was excellent. We sat and soaked it up feeling relaxed, comfortable and at ease.

The Atmosphere: The Most Beautiful Restaurant In Negril?

The atmosphere at The Lodge Restaurant is one of quiet luxury. The cliffside setting with the rustic wood accents, beautiful dining settings and cool ocean breeze is perfection. Cocktails at sunset here would make for a perfect romantic evening while during the day the relaxed atmosphere and excellent service puts you in the best holiday mood. This restaurant would suit honeymooners, couples, a girls’ trip or anyone looking for a quality experience or special dinner.

What We Ordered (+ Honest Food Review)

Drinks

We ordered some cocktails which were icy cold and tasted fresh and delicious. After trying the piña colada, a strawberry and mango daiquiri and a Tensing mojito we can attest that this is an excellent cocktail spot! I loved all our cocktails but I can’t go past a well made piña colada, it is my favourite drink of choice.

Main Meals

Mike had already eaten a lot during the first part of the day, but I had yet to have lunch so I ordered the gluten free Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wrap. It was fresh, super tasty and exactly what I wanted. The flavours of Jamaica in a different format than I had been eating.

Dietary Restrictions

I have a seafood allergy and coeliac disease, so finding places to eat safely can sometimes be challenging. I was at ease while dining at The Lodge Restaurant. The staff were very aware and understood my allergy needs and made me feel comfortable. The food was delicious and the menu has a great range of gluten free options as well which was really exciting. I loved the food, kind service and calm atmosphere. I highly recommend dining here as a coeliac when you are visiting Negril. I looked over the other menus as well. Dinner looks great and breakfast looks exciting too. I absolutely want to stay here next time and eat at the Lodge Restaurant daily!

Can You Eat At The Lodge Without Staying At Tensing Pen?

You can eat at The Lodge Restaurant as a non-guest of Tensing Pen Resort, we walked in and were able to be seated. I think it would be ideal to make a reservation so they were expecting you and you can request a table close to the water, especially if you want to do dine or have cocktails around sunset.

If you are staying at the beach you will need to get transport to the Lodge Restaurant, we took a route taxi from Negril town which cost 400 JMD per person but you can also use Uber. To get back we called an Uber to take us straight to our hotel in the beach area which cost us 832.15 JMD. It is absolutely worth doing as you get to experience the cliffside area in a stunning location if you are not staying here. We spent about 2.5 hours here just relaxing and enjoying the views, atmosphere…and cocktails of course!

If you only want to stay by the beach for your whole time in Negril then this restaurant won’t suit you but honestly, I would still recommend it as the views are just as stunning and you get to experience a different side to Negril, it is worth it!

Why We’d Stay At Tensing Pen Next Time

After experiencing Tensing Pen Resort, seeing the rooms and property and experiencing the quiet luxury, relaxed atmosphere we would recommend staying at Tensing Pen Resort and plan to spend more time here on our next visit. Staying at the property would change your experience in Negril and add such a different vibe. You can soak up the cliff views and even swim in the cliffside water. The sunset here would be magical and the atmosphere is so peaceful that it feels like the ultimate escape. It really feels like you are stepping into a retreat where you can truly relax and soak up every small moment.

Who Tensing Pen Is Best For

Tensing Pen Resort is stunning and based on our visit, it would be one of our top choices for a future stay in Negril. It suits:

  • Couples
  • Luxury travellers
  • Special occasions
  • Girls’ trips
  • Wellness holiday
  • Solo holiday
  • Slow travel

Is Tensing Pen Worth The Price?

It is absolutely worth the price, the accommodation is stunning, the rooms are meticulously designed to enhance the calming and relaxing atmosphere of the resort. Negril’s cliff area is really beautiful and spending time here to see the other side of the area is something we loved, Tensing Pen is the best place to do this.

If you are not staying at Tensing Pen then I would still recommend visiting The Lodge Restaurant as you can experience the resort whilst dining.

For us Tensing Pen is definitely worth it.

The Lodge Restaurant vs Negril Beach Restaurants

There are a lot of restaurants and dining styles in Negril to choose from, we loved our experiences at the very local Miss Jean’s and we also visited Rick’s Café however we think The Lodge is one of Negril’s standout dining experiences.

Is The Lodge Restaurant Worth Visiting If You’re Staying On Seven Mile Beach?

Yes, visiting The Lodge Restaurant is definitely worth it even if you are only staying on Seven Mile Beahc. The route taxi or Uber is easy to use and not expensive. The Lodge makes an ideal lunch or sunset stop off while you experience this different side of Negril, and it is good even without a hotel booking.

They also have a really nice gift store which supports and showcases local crafts people and designers. We really loved this and wanted to buy everything there, all pieces were of a high quality and well made.
