These are the food stops we made, they were all excellent and tasted authentic. We learnt a lot from our guide about Mexican life and food.
First Stop: Fruit Stall
We stopped just outside of Sayulita to taste some local fruits and different candy that was made of coconut, chili, tamarind and pineapple. It was all delicious and available for purchase to take with you if you wanted. I couldn’t get enough of the peanut brittle, the coconut and pineapple, it was all so fresh.
Second Taco Stop: Fancy Tacos
Our second stop was at a fancy restaurant with some of the best high end tacos we have ever eaten! At 100mxn each taco it was delicious and paired with the house speciality margarita it was a dream. This was one of the best stops we made, the quality and taste were high…we were off to a good start!
Third Taco Stop: Chilaquiles
We stopped off for a different type of food called chilaquiles. We hadn’t heard of this before and it was delicious. The stall had been there for generations, as long as Sayulita has been a town. We loved hearing the history of the people and the food.
Fourth Stop: Birria Tacos
This stop was right at the beachfront at s popular restaurant, that had been there a long time. We ate birria tacos cooked fresh. The meat was falling apart and delicious.
Fifth Stop: Traditional Street Tacos
Next we stopped at an authentic local stand for al pastor tacos. These were a flavour sensation and one of the best things we tried! We knew we needed more of these.
Sixth Stop: Seafood Taco Stop
We stopped at a traditional street stall to taste the coastal influence of Sayulita with fresh fish cheviche tacos. Light and zingy these were delightfully fresh.
Sweet Finish / Dessert Stop
The last stop on our tour was at a locally made gelato store. The flavours were so enticing and I had to go with a tropical fruit flavour and it was delicious.

The Sayulita Taco Tour from Puerto Vallarta is absolutely worth it, when compared to doing this excusions independently it is value for money and convenient. The food quality was excellent and easy when compared to randomly trying to find somewhere to try. It was also a lot of fun, we met other travellers and learnt a lot from our guide. The weather was fabulous when we went but it would actually be fine in any weather as the town is easily walkable. You are also able to eat as much as you want, if you want another serve of tacos just ask the guide and he will arrange it for you. Want a beer or drink, it is no problem at all.

The tour lasts for 6.5 hours including travel time, honestly the time flies we enjoyed it so much. The tour costs $98 USD and you can be picked up from either the tour office, your Puerto Vallarta hotel or meet in Sayulita. We met at 9am and were picked up on time, you really don’t need to bring much except for your appetite. Bring a phone or camera for pictures, cash to tip your guide (he is worth it!), wear comfortable shoes for walking and clothes that are loose expand because you will be full!.
