Is Vancouver worth visiting?

Yes! We loved our time in Vancouver and really think it is totally underrated. There’s so much to do we wish we had more time and are already planning our next visit. This is our extended Vancouver itinerary which covers everything in and around Vancouver that is a must do.

Where to stay in Vancouver?

We stayed at the St Regis Hotel and it was excellent! We can’t recommend it more highly. The rooms are spacious with super comfortable beds. The included breakfast is cooked to perfection and the staff are incredible. The location is perfectly centred in the heart of Downtown you can walk the city easily or jump on public transport. This our full review of our stay at the St Regis Hotel.

Vancouver Itinerary – Week One

Your first week is spent in Downtown Vancouver. You need at least this to do all the activities that the city offers. I would schedule our week like this:

Day 1: Arrive in the city, visit Queen Elizabeth Park with a coffee, have some lunch and spend the afternoon exploring Granville Island Public Market.

Day 2: Explore Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, book your tickets for the morning. Grab lunch there and really take your time to enjoy the many aspects of the park. When you are ready to leave you can hike 1.6km up to the Salmon Hatchery and then the Dam afterwards if you are keen. Once finished head back to the Bridge park and take the free shuttle bus back to the city.

Day 3: Hire a bike and cycle through Stanley Park. Take a picnic, have a snack at the tea house or fish and chips at Third Beach Concession. Spend the day here exploring all the areas of the park, it is huge! We loved the beach, the trails that run through the centre, the lake and rose garden. There is so much to see here! Don’t miss the beautiful Shakespeare gardens and the sea wall. We hired ours through Jo-E bikes or you can take a tour of Stanley Park which includes hire.

Day 4: Walk the city and check out the Marine Building to marvel at the 1920s design, checkout the unique public library and Cathedral. Stop off for some souvenir shopping at Hudson House a heritage building with beautiful window displays and check out the Gasworks Steam Clock before going to the Vancouver Lookout for sunset views of the city. This is such a cool experience, the Lookout Vancouver is not expensive and you can see all the way over and around the city. With information boards pointing out the landmarks and tables to eat at it really is a lovely place to spend some time. You can have a meal at the top or just enjoy the city from a different perspective!

Day 5: Head to Granville Public Market for morning tea then go whale watching with Prince of Whales. They are an excellent company that runs regular tours out and has the best results.

Day 6: Go on a brewery tour or spend the day sampling your favourites at The Red Truck Brewery. Eat some poutine to taste the Canadian staple! In the evening go to a hockey game.

Day 7: Hike the Grouse Trail – this is free to hike up and takes about 2.5 hours. It is not permitted to hike down so you would need to take the sky lift at a cost of $20CAD. This is an institution in Vancouver, it climbs to about 1,100 metres over a distance of approx 2.5 km. Called Mother Nature’s Stairmaster it is a good workout in some lovely nature.

Vancouver Itinerary – Week 2

Day 8: Go to Vancouver Island. This is really close to Vancouver and well worth a visit. There you will find the pretty town of Victoria and the famous Butchart Gardens. This tour ‘Experience Victoria and Butchart Gardens Tour‘ includes a guide and return transport to the famous Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island!

Day 9: Join the Granite Falls Boat, Waterfalls, and Wildlife tour it is definitely for the more adventurous! It will take you up close and personal to the glacial fjord of Indian Arm! Make sure to also go on a seaplane flight. Spend the afternoon flying above the stunning Canadian landscape and city.

Day 10: Go on a day trip to Whistler, ski in the winter and hike in the summer. This is incredibly high on our list for our next visit! We really want to do this Sea to Sky Gondola and Whistler Day Trip tour which combines the two awesome outdoor activities.

Day 11-14:Go to Banff and Lake Louise and Lake Moraine. This would be an epic trip from Vancouver. The destination is well known to be an outdoor paradise, with hiking and skiing. We are so keen to come back and do this trip! Get to Banff via car or bus and there are lots of tours to help make seeing the best easier, our picks are: Open-Top Shuttle to Moraine and Lake Louise and Lake Louise and Moraine Lake Sightseeing Tour

That is everything we would do with an incredible 2 week Vancouver Itinerary! If you have any questions feel free to leave them below in the comments or email us and we will do our best to help!
