How to get to Capri from Sorrento?

There is a ferry terminal right at the waterfront. Make sure to leave yourself enough time to get down to Porto di Sorrento. It is a nice place for morning, afternoon or evening walk and there are really nice restaurants to eat at.

Where do you buy tickets for Capri ferry?

The ferry port has a ticket booth to purchase tickets. It is quite easy to purchase there although they sometimes sell out. We heard lots of stories about missing out on the early ferry as it was full.

You can book them on Ferry Hopper which is our preferred booking platform. We have used them regularly and it is a simple process. Ferry Hopper shows the available times and prices for each day which makes it easier to plan your trip. We booked the earliest and latest ferries to fit as much as possible into our day trip.

Can you stay in Capri?

Yes you can stay in Capri, we didn’t have time but I really want to next trip. I searched hotels and these are the best options I found. We always look at a combination of location, price and reviews to determine the best options for accommodaiton:

Budget: To Be Capri, Marunnella Suites, Albergo La Prora, Regina Cristina

Midrange: Casa Marta Capri, Villa Calypso, Hotel Canasta

Luxe: Hotel Mamela, Sina Flora, Pazziella Garden & Suites

How do you get around on Capri?

Capri has a public bus system and a chairlift to get you around. There are also private cars and transfers but the bus is the cheapest way to get around. You can find the schedules here, usually there is a bus every 15-20 minutes but they can also be full when it is busy.

There is often a long line waiting to board in Anacapri’s Piazza Vittoria, near the chairlift to Mount Solaro. We waited in this spot while 2 buses went past because they were already full. To get a seat on the bus to Capri, all you need to do is walk about 100 meters up Viale Tommaso de Tommaso to the bus stop and board there.

You can buy a day bus ticket which lets you go on any bus as many times as you want. This is what we did and it worked out marginally cheaper for us. TIP: return the bus ticket to the station at the end of the day to receive a small percentage back.

What do you do on a day trip to Capri from Sorrento?

Capri is a chill out, wander and soak up the beauty island. It is a small island and there are a lot of areas to visit. You need to factor in the time to get around, the buses are not fast. If you do want to see most of the island. We had to choose which ones to include as there isn’t enough time to get around the whole island in one day. These are the things that I would make sure to include in my day trip to Capri from Sorrento.

Anacapri – what to do on a day trip to capri from sorrento

We got off the ferry and went straight to the bus station to get the next one to Anacapri. It can get quite crowded there by the afternoon and we wanted to avoid this. Anacapri is a picturesque little village. The bus ride is long and windy to get there. If the bus is full you may have to stand which is uncomfortable..

In Anacapri you can walk around the streets looking at the cute shops, historic buildings and snack from the bakeries, cafes and restaurants.

Villa San Michele is located in Anacapri. It is a big villa you can walk around and take in the incredible views and gardens. Created by Swedish physician and author Axel Munthe. It has won awards for its design and beauty. There is a museum inside. You can check opening times and costs on their website.

You will find the Mont Solaro Chairlift in Anacapri and can ride it to the viewpoint. It costs 12 euro both way ticket or 9 euro each way. You can find the opening times and current costs on the official website.

Capri area – what to do on a day trip to capri from sorrento

Piazza Umberto I

This is the main piazza in Capri, there are loads of cafes, restaurants, gelato bars and people watching to enjoy. You will find a cathedral, clock tower and town hall. There is a lot packed into this little area and it really is worth spending a bit of time here having a coffee or cold drink to enjoy the atmosphere.

The beautiful clocktower in the centre of the Piazza Umberto I is just to the side and well worth checking out. The area is really lovely.

Carthusia Perfumery

I LOVE perfumes, so to find a perfumery on Capri was so exciting for me. The store is really beautiful and there are so many products to ogle and try. Outside there is a stunning garden which has pots of the fragrances in them so you can smell them before even entering. The perfumery dates back to 1380, when monks at the Carthusian Monastery of St. James were creating flower arrangements for Queen Joan of Anjou who was visiting. In 1948 the recipes were found and the perfumery began. Inside the store you will see photos of old Hollywood stars and their favourite perfumes. Such a beautiful history.

Via Camerelle

This is a prestigious street which is right near to the Piazza Umbreto I. It is full of expensive stores and is a great place to people watch. The stores are incredibly beautiful, there are restaurants and hotels here to enjoy also.

Augustus Gardens – Via Krupp

Augustus Gardens are lush and beautiful. They are a great place to head during midday when the heat hits and you can sit in the shade. If you brought food with you you could eat it here and enjoy the gardens for a picnic lunch. It costs about 1 euro to get in and is worth it.

Sadly when we visited, Via Krupp was closed so we couldn’t get down it or access close to it but it looks really interesting.

Belvedere Tragara and Belvedere di Punta Cannone

This is an observation deck where you can get beautiful views out over the sea. You will find that it gets a little busy here.

TIP: If this spot is too busy for you then head up to Belvedere di Punta Cannone. It is a much quieter viewpoint. It is a bit further up the hill and the views are just as stunning.

Marina Piccola

This is a beach area that is serviced by the bus system. It has a beach bar and great sunbed/umbrella area as well as a free beach area. I loved this cute beach. The water is incredible, it is the perfect Italian beach. There are great restaurants here and the beach bar if you are looking for food and drinks.

Chiesa di Sant’Andrea

This little church is right at the entry for Marina Piccola beach. It is the sweetest little thing and I loved it.

Blue Grotto

We loved our day trip to Capri, there is so much to do that I haven’t covered as it won’t fit in to one day.
