Some of Sri Lankas best surf beaches, Midigama and Kabalana were not even on my radar when we first planned our trip around Sri Lanka. They are now somewhere I dream of returning. The perfect place to chill out, surf, yoga, beach and eat where laid back is the vibe.
Midigama and Kabalana are close to each other and it’s easy to stay in one and still enjoy the other if you have a scooter or tuk tuk. Midigama has more cafes and shops but Kabalana still has enough to sort you out during your stay. Honestly I would be equally happy at either one, wandering the coast line and slipping in to each little beach I come across. Both areas have access to great surf breaks nearby and a great little travel community.
Here are all the options for accommodation that I’ve either stayed at or think look good. Honestly I love Lime and Co so much I would absolutely recommend them first in both towns.
Kabalana (Kaba) Accommodation –
Lime and Co Kaba – This is where we stayed. It is dripping in laid back cool, think eco chic with an earthy low key chilled out vibe. While it has private rooms it still has an open kitchen, pool and games room and various outdoor areas to hang in.
Another great option was Global Surf Lodge although it is a little more expensive.
Where to eat in Kaba –
Cafe Pleasure and Homestay – delicious food, lovely people and a happy atmosphere, Mr Sunils Roti and Juice Shop – Yum, everything!
Top Tip:
The best things to do here are sit back, relax and enjoy the beach. Surf, yoga, eat and chill is the ultimate day here!
Midigama (Midi) Accommodation
Lime & Co Midi – this hotel carries on the earthy, chilled out vibe from its sister hotel Lime and Co Kaba. It is an awesome hotel with hostel or private room facilities, open kitchen and pool area.
Senani Guesthouse and Midigama Holiday Inn are all popular places that are still reasonable in price. Rooms at the most popular places really book up quickly so you’d want to get that sorted before you arrive.
Where to eat in Midi:
There is a cool little spot called Ajna Food and Yoga which is exactly that, food in the front and yoga in the back. The food is awesome and the yoga really well taught. Check it out here.
Mamas Restaurant and rooms – we had lunch here which was awesome! The kottu and fried rice were lovely and the best part was the sauce that was offered. It was one of the best things I ate on our trip! It was hot, spicy and incredibly delicious. I actually couldn’t stop adding it to my meal.
